Device Groups
Introduction
Resolve Insights enables you to group devices according to your specific business needs. You can create a device group that includes devices from a specific vendor, based on a specific platform, using a particular module, or adhering to a specific naming convention.
Device groups can in turn be combined into device group categories. You can later use the device groups and categories to filter the view in the Inventory and Topology sections.
Create a Device Group
- Navigate to Device Groups.
 - Click + Add Device Group.
 - Enter the Name of the group.
 - (Optional) Enter the group Category - Group your device groups into categories by selecting an existing one from the drop-down list or entering a new category name.
 - In the Group Filters section, use any of the three ways to specify search criteria to match the devices that you want to include in the group. The three areas interact disjunctively (logical OR).
- Under Device Filter, click Open. In the new dialog that opens, select a criterion (Device Type, Device Location, and so on) from the list and match it against a value using logical operators.
- Add multiple criteria by clicking the + button below the filter and combine them by selecting an AND/OR condition. To delete a criterion, click the X icon on the right.
 - Add multiple filter groups by clicking the Add group button in the same configuration dialog. Like the individual criteria within a group, filter groups can also be combined using an AND/OR condition.

 - In Device Group Filter, select one or more preexisting device groups to include in the new group.
 - In the Custom Query Filter field, you can type your own Lucene query.

 - Under Device Filter, click Open. In the new dialog that opens, select a criterion (Device Type, Device Location, and so on) from the list and match it against a value using logical operators.
 - Click the Preview Devices button to get the list of devices matching the filter criteria.
- To remove any applied device filters, click Clear.

 - Click Create to create the group.

The new dynamic device group will be created, and the selected devices will be added to it.

Filtering by Device Group and Category
You can get a more refined view of the data displayed in the Inventory and Topology screens by filtering by Device Group and Category. In these two screens, you will find the Category and Group filters in the secondary header, right next to the site name.
The filters are only visible if there are existing Device Groups and Categories in your Insights instance.
The Device Groups and Categories drop-down lists are independent. Device Groups always lists all existing groups regardless of your selection in Categories.
You can only filter by one category or one group at a time. If a category is selected and you then select a group, the category filter will be cleared and the results will be filtered by the selected group, and vice versa.
